Dar As-Salaam
The eternal city of Fez has been designated a world heritage city by the United Nations.  Founded in the year 809, Fez is unique among the great cities of Islam (Damascus, Baghdad, Cairo, and Jerusalem), in that it has never been destroyed by invader or natural disaster.  A variety of public and private organisations have set out to conserve and restore the ancient medina.  La Maison du Maroc was established to finance the purchase and restoration of a centuries old Moorish "riyad" in the ancient medina of Fez.

Over the last several years there has been a grass-roots movement of concerned Moroccans and foreign residents of Morocco to purchase and restore the important houses of the ancient "medina" of Fez.  You may visit some of these homes by clicking on the links listed below.

Hidden behind the narrow alleys of Fez are glorious palaces of mysterious beauty. Carved cedar doors, black marble tiles, mosaic patterns frame flowering gardens and gurgling fountains.
